Captain's Log           by Paul Wadehra, Board President

Hi Parents & Swimmers,

Congratulations to Armada swimmers for our second victory of the season against Forest North. Once again we had lots of time improvements, and all swimmers who improved a time will receive a special ribbon. Twenty-five swimmers won at least one first place and we already have 43 swimmers who are Invitational Meet qualifiers.

We have an away meet this week. We take the short trip to visit our friends the Round Rock Dolphins. Be sure to sign in to the Online Meet Entry (OME) by noon Monday and let us know if you are participating and your event and volunteer choices. Arrival time is 6:00 am See below in this newsletter for more details.

The theme this week is "Space Invaders" -- let's see out "outta this world" you can go!

Swimathon is this Tuesday, 6pm at the pool! Come for free food, games, prizes, silent auction, and lots and lots of fun. Read all about it here.

Email me any time with questions at board@wbarmada.org. For complete team information, visit wellsbranch.swimtopia.com, and don't forget to check your folders regularaly.

See you at the pool!

Coach's Corner           by Alex Fedorov, Head Coach

We had another fantastic meet where we saw several time improvements, new invitational qualifiers and team records go down! Each week the Armada Swim Team is getting strong and faster. I am proud of the many young swimmers who have shown significant time improvements! We beat Forest North by about 30 points, which was a close meet. Congratulations Armada for another well swum meet!

As we move into a new week, this weekend will be our first away meet against the Round Rock Dolphins. This is a very strong swim team. We will be competing at a faster pool and I hope to see many time improvements at this meet.

We have begun doing stroke clinics after practice and urge many of the beginner swimmers to really take advantage of these clinics as this offers swimmers more one-on-one time with our experienced coaching staff. Please make sure you sign-up at the pool and if you have any questions, please contact Coach Gina who is managing this system.

Congratulations for another fantastic week!

Coach Alex

Volunteer Spot            by Jeannie Boylan, Volunteer Coordinator

Hi Parents,

I can't remember if this is my third or fourth year as volunteer coordinator, but I will tell you that in all of my years of doing this, Saturday's meet with Forest North, from my perspective, was the most smoothly run meet ever. Sure, we had scratches, but people willingly stepped up to fill the gaps. Everyone reported to their positions when they were supposed to be there, I didn't have to go looking for people. There were enough volunteers to cover all positions. What more could I ask for? Absolutely nothing! A big THANK YOU to everyone for making my job easier.

See you at the Swim-a-thon!

On-line Meet Entry (OME) - Due each Monday by noon

We have a new way of registering to participate in swim meets. Each swimmer is expected to follow these procedures for each meet - even if they are not participating in the meet.

Deadline for June 16 meet against Round Rock is MONDAY (6/11) by NOON.

Deadline for June 23 meet against Tidal Waves is MONDAY (6/18) by NOON.

Please login to https://wellsbranch.swimtopia.com/swim_meets - click on the name of the meet you want to register for.

Special Requests and Scratches:
The software does not yet allow a way for you to send the coaches notes or event requests about the meet. If you have a request about event entries, please email mindy@swimweb.org.

Once we close the meet online, email mindy@swimweb.org if you have to scratch. You can send Mindy a text message Friday and Saturday morning 512-658-0843. You can call Paul at 512-659-1373 AFTER 5:30 a.m. Saturday or BEFORE 9 p.m. Friday night.

Round Rock Dolphins- June 16 - AWAY

Be sure to enter by noon Monday - June 11 using our OME system.

Our first "away" meet of the season and we are lucky to be able to make a very short drive to Micki Krebsbach pool at 301 Deepwood Drive in Round Rock. This is adjacent to Round Rock High School.

It is extremely important for new swimmers to experience swimming in a different pool with a different atmosphere. This is valuable experience before we travel to Steiner Ranch for Divisionals in July,

Please arrive on time. Late arrival could result in your swimmer being scratched from their relay. This meet will end no later than 12:30. They have a firm 1 pm deadline for leaving the pool.

Scratch: Once we close the meet online, email mindy@swimweb.org if you have to scratch. You can send Mindy a text message Friday and Saturday morning 512-658-0843. You can call Paul at 512-659-1373 AFTER 5:30 a.m. Saturday or BEFORE 9 p.m. Friday night.

We will need volunteers to show up around 5:45 am to help us set up our tents and tarps for our pit areas. Please help us when you arrive with getting everyone settled.
Clean Up
We ask everyone to clean up the pit area, take down tents, fold tarps and help us pack them in the transportation trucks. The Dolphins have a strick 1 pm deadline to be clear of the pool and we have to hussle. Pit parents should not release swimmers until their area is clean.

There is tons of parking in the pool lot, the school lot across the driveway and the stadium lot behind the pool.

 "Fast Fishy" Winners

Each week the WBA honors the swimmers in each age group that record the largest time improvement. In swimming, the goal is to try to beat yourself each week by recording a personal best.

WBA Concession Stand and Donation Schedule

Concession Stand: The concession stand normally accepts cash only. However, they will be selling $10 "cash cards" that can be purchased by check.

This year, our concession menu is being expanded. They will be cooking breakfast tacos on site and have added turkey wraps and chicken tacos to the lunch menu.. They will also have pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, sausage wraps, hamburgers and cheese burgers. YUM!

Donations: We ask that parents make a donation of homemade baked goods or cut-up fruit to the concession stand for sale during our home swim meets. Some ideas are muffins, cookies, and fruit that is cut up and placed in containers such as plastic cups with clear wrap on top. Please remember it will be hot outside and you don't want to donate anything that will melt - like chocolate chips, frosting, etc.

Support Valyncia - buy "Valyncia Strong" bracelets

WBA swimmer Valyncia Nunn has been fighting serious, life-threatening illnesses for a number of years. This past year, she spent 10 months in the hospital - many of them in Houston.

We are fortunate that she is well-enough to swim with us this summer, but her battle continues and we are awed by her strength and her courage.

Show your support for Valyncia and her family by purchasing "Valynica Strong" bracelets at the swim shop during our home meets.

Every dollar you spend on the bracelets or donated will be given to the Nunn family to assist them in some of their expenses. You may also make addition donations.

Swimathon:   PARTY TIME is 6 to 8:30 pm, Tuesday, June 12

Our annual Swimathon & Silent Auction will be held from 6 to 8:30 pm, Tuesday, June 12. This is our primary fundraiser and a huge party for our swimmers and families.

Swimmers will receive donation envelopes in their family folders this week. We ask that each swimmer collect pledges per length of the pool or flat donations. This fundraiser keeps us from having to raise registration prices significantly. Each family has committed to get donations of at least $50.

During the Swim-a-thon, swimmers will be swimming laps and parents will bring chairs and sit by the pool to count your swimmer's laps. On team members are allowed in the pool. Each team member will be entered in drawings for great door prizes - and there is one for everyone!. We will also have special prizes you can purchase raffle tickets for.

We will offer free food and drinks for all family members. Sno-cones, popcorn, hot dogs and we usually are able to offer some "higher-end" food also. No charge for any of this!

Parents are encouraged to visit our Silent Auction tables. We have restaurant certificates, tickets to local attractions, items donated by local businesses and a Big Green Egg BBQ!

WBA Scholarships: Two winners will be chosen

This season, the Wells Branch Armada board voted to begin awarding two annual scholarships to swimmers who apply in their "age-out" year.

A scholarship committee will review applications. No senior parent will serve on the committee and we would like non-board members to volunteer. If you would like to serve on the committee, please email board@wbarmada.org

Applications will go out to eligible swimmers this week.

Morning practice started Friday, June 1

We have assigned each swimmer to a specific practice time. Schedules were emailed to each family. Swimmers must swim at their appointed time.

If you have a question about your practice time or did not receive the schedule, please email Paul Wadehra.

Friday June 1 - Monday, July 9:    Practices are held Monday - Friday
Practice 1 7:15 - 8:35 am
Practice 2 8:25- 9:10 am
Practice 3 9:05-9:55
Practice 4 9:50 - 10:45 am
Practice 5 10:40 - 11:35 am

Rain/Bad Weather:
In case of weather changes, please have a back-up plan for your swimmer (bike riders, walkers, etc). Everyone must be out of the water during a thunderstorm and if lightning is seen. Swim practice may continue if it is only raining and the coaches feel practice will be beneficial. If in doubt, you can call the pool and ask the lifeguard if swim practice is on. If the weather changes quickly, and the swimmers must get out of the pool, a coach will remain with them until everyone is picked up. The telephone number to the pool office is 512-310-1833.

Swim Team Night at RR Express Baseball - Wed, June 20

Deadline to order is Monday, June 11 at 11:30 am - please place in the RR Express folder in filebox.

Each season, the Round Rock Express Baseball Team honors local swimmers at "Swim Team Night".

They offer all swimmers in the area half-price tickets and give host a pre-game parade around the field.

We purchase the tickets as a team so that those that choose to sit in the reserved seats can all sit together. Other options than many choose are the Home Run Porch or the lawn seating. If you know your (older) swimmer is going to wander around the whole game, the lawn seating ticket is a great option for $3!

Swimmers wanting to participate in the parade should line up under the jumbotron at 6 p.m. - Otherwise, the game start at 7:05 pm

Order forms have been placed in your family folder. There are extra in the board/coaches filebox. Please respond with payment by Monday, June 11 at 11:30 am.
